Take a look! – Tips and tricks for beautiful eyes

11 January 2017

The more alert and radiant the glance, the more lively and attractive is the spirit. Why is that? Our eyes reflect the state of our soul and the one showing big eyes gives a healthier, fresher and more balanced impression. Read here what you can do for it – internally and externally.

Did you know that 22 muscles are responsible on how we look at the world? Whether cheerful, pinched, laughing, crying, critical or astonished. But with increasing age it leaves its traces. The connective tissue around the eyes becomes slacker and loses elasticity. For the eyes to remain an eye-catcher, it is worth taking some tips and tricks to heart.

What’s the reason for …

… swollen eyelids?

It usually happens overnight. The reason for this is a too low lymph flow which doesn’t carry away the fluid. More sleep and more activity can counteract this. Even a low-salt diet can help. If you normally sleep on a flat pillow you could support the lymph flow during your sleep by using a thicker pillow.

dark eye rings?

irst of all, eye rings are genetic. If your kinship has “panda-eyes” you most probably will be affected too. More important is a healthy lifestyle. Too much stress, too little sleep, lack of exercise and a vitamin-poor nutrition become obvious in the truest sense of the word. The dark shadows under the eyes arise when the oxygen content in the blood decreases and the circulation deteriorates. Lymph fluid is not transported away and accumulates with the blood in the fine network of veins and a dark shadow appears.

How to prevent

Wholesome nutrition

The health of the eyes appreciates a vitamin-rich, balanced diet. Raspberries, peanuts and plums (as well as red wine) contain the molecule resveratrol, which prevents the formation of diseased blood vessels. Green vegetables, which contain the dyes zeaxanthin and lutein, do well to the light-sensitive cells in the retina centre.

Don’t forget the eye-cream

Compared to the face skin on cheeks or forehead, the skin around the eyes is a lot thinner. As there are hardly any sebaceous glands there’s no protective fat film to form. Wind, cold and sun are an extra strain. A special eye care became a routine from the middle of the 20th century. First a moisturizing cream is sufficient; from the age of 40 onwards products with hyaluronic acids are recommended with a skin-tightening effect.

Do you know Eye Yoga?

Anyone who is starring for hours on monitors, displays or screens, is exposed to air conditioning or cigarette smoke, often suffer from burning red eyes – also known as “Office Eye Syndrome”. The reason: we blink less frequently and so our eyes become dry. The following exercise helps: Roll your eyes with your eyes closed. A few times to the left and right, then describe an imaginary eight. Then place the palms on your closed eyelids and deeply inhale and exhale.

Sun protection for the brows

When applying sun cream don’t forget to cream your eye brows too. The skin here needs protection as well as the face. In addition, the hair doesn’t bleach and so won’t need to be dyed later.

Tricks for make-up

Against eye-rings

Tarnish dark spots with concealer but restrict it to the inner corner of the eye and gently out towards the nose. This prevents the concealer from settling in the fine lines under the eyes.

For an eye-flash

With a glittering, preferably very bright eyeshadow (in white, silver, cream) conjure up a freshness kick on your eyelids. When applied to the inner eye angle or on the upper eyelid, the pigments reflect and flash your eyes.

For a colourful look

Brush your eyelashes in blue or pink instead of brown or black. Coloured mascara reinforces the eye colour. If you want it even more radiant, first neutralize with white mascara and then apply the desired eyelash colour.

For more shine

For a real eye-catcher choose liquid eyeliner with glitter particles to get the most out of your eyes. So that nothing can go wrong, apply concealer primer on the eyelids, followed by transparent powder. First draw a line along the upper eyelash rim with a single-colored eyeliner pencil, then repeat the same line with liquid glitter-eyeliner.

Against smeared, dirty eyelids

Do not blush dark eyeshadows on the eyelid, but spread a bright, shimmering colour (beige, champagne colours) as a base. Then dust the dark colour over it so that a gentle transition from light to dark is created, without the eyes looking smeared.

For more youthfulness

Dense eyebrows look younger. Fill up small gaps with colour-matching eyebrow powder. Also the dyeing of the brows makes them appear fuller.
