Your counter-measure against inconvenient cellulite

13 June 2016

The bad news first: Cellulite is genetic and therefore is inevitable. However, the unsightly skin appearance on the buttock, thighs and belly can be improved. The only question is: the question is how?

One thing cellulite is for sure: It’s not stingy with superlatives. About 80 percent of all women are affected. Some studies even say a sobering 98 percent. In this respect we’re actually in good company? In earlier times the orange-peel skin was taken far more relaxed and accepted. As when Ursula Andress back in 1962 starred in the James Bond movie “Dr. No” seen in a bikini, not with a flawless body, virtually nobody was bothered. And the ”Three Graces” portrayed by Peter Paul Rubens in the 17th century despite visible cellulite in the advanced stage were seen as real beauty ideals. Today cellulite ranks first as the most annoying blemish far ahead of leg hair and crow’s feet. Women almost exclusively suffer from unsightly skin dents is based on genetic and hormonal conditions. While men’s collagen fibres are interwoven like a net and therefore no fat deposits can pass through the connective tissue, in women, this is arranged in columnar form. Therefore the underlying fatty tissue appears on the surface in form of dents and the gaps in form of dimples. The connective tissue in women is also much more flexible. For that reason, not only heavily overweight women suffer from orange-peel skin but the slightly overweight suffer also.

Some good news for extremely slim women who already think of unsightly deformations of cellulite: more often the genetically soft tissue is the cause for an unsightly skin condition. With some exercise you normally get it back under control.

Economic factor cellulite

Cellulite is primarily one thing: a lucrative market. Around 6,6 billion dollars annually are spent worldwide for cosmetics and plastic surgery against cellulite (based on: The Press). The range of means to combat cellulite is as big as its occurrence. There is something available for every budget: the simplest kind – creams, enriched with caffeine, gingko or alga extract. The skin is well provided with moisture butthe effect against cellulite is very low. The same applies to massages which have a positive effect on the blood circulation and the lymphatic system. “However this effect disappears once you stop with it” explains Hans-Detlef Axmann, a board member of the German Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Besides, such methods are only applicable for very slim women. It also depends on the right techniques. And – who is fond of a self-massage?

Good to know

What exactly is cellulite?

Cellulite is a hormonally- induced change of the subcutaneous fatty tissue. Excess fat deposits and hormonally induced poor blood circulation lead to a sluggish metabolism in the affected tissue. In addition more tissue fluid is embedded. The unsightly dents in the skin are nothing more than fat cells that can no longer be held in the subcutaneous layer of the connective tissue.

The female and male connective tissue

While the female collagen fibres are arranged in columnar form (left) they appear in the male connective tissue in a network structure, whereby fat cells are kept better in check.

So under the knife?

Apart from cost intensive and dangerous liposuction, dermatologists also offer alternative treatment methods which are gentle. With Mesotherapy for example, special active ingredients are injected under the skin with tiny needles. The Micro-Needling in turn stimulates certain receptors of the uppermost layer of the skin, as in acupuncture with needles which in turn releases growth factors for a new formation of collagen and elastic fibers.

For whom this sounds too complex and too expensive perhaps think of a more radical alternative. “No fat– no cellulite.” A truly dangerous conclusion, as the fat reduction on concerned areas is very low. A too rapid weight loss leads to the famous yo-yo-effect. The consequence: The pounds are back quickly. And the skin is pretty bad – the constant ups and downs pretty bad – and retaliates with even nastier cellulite.

Relaxed tighten

Who wants to get cellulite under control should avoid as many risk factors a possible – above all weight increase. In a HYPOXI-studio you find the right devices, specifically to combat undesired fat in problem areas. And also for skin tightening, HYPOXI has the solution: HYPOXI-Dermology. The secret is in HD-PressureSuit. “While relaxing on the lounger in this suit the problem areas are treated as per principle of cupping therapy” explains HYPOXI-Master Trainer Maria Lloyd-Wright. “The HD-PressureSuit exercise the skin by gently applying high pressure and low pressure on the problem areas.” The whole lymphatic system is activated and in this way the undesired toxins are removed. The connective tissue can regenerate faster due to improved circulation.

Relaxing on the HD-Comfort-Lounger increases the blood circulation in the fat deposits. And therefrom optimal benefits during training in the HYPOXI devices S120 and L250 – especially in in highly pronounced cellulite.

7 Everyday tips for beautiful skin

  1. Drink a minimum of 2 litres a day
Liquid makes among others the skin firmer from inside out. It’s best to stick to water or unsweetened tees to avoid unnecessary calories.
  2. Eat fruits and vegetables
This way you provide the body with low calorie vitamins and minerals. The smaller the fat cells and the better the supply from inside, the more beautiful is the skin.
  3. Stop smoking!
The skin in particular suffers from such bad habit. Smoking impairs blood circulation and the elasticity of the skin fibres.
  4. Hot and cold shower
With a stimulating hot and cold shower you support the blood circulation and you train the vessels for the fat metabolism.
  5. Relax
Stress increases cellulite! Being under pressure we distribute hormones which stimulate the growth of fat cells.Search for relaxation technics which calms you down.
  6. In the shadow!
UV-rays damage the connective tissue and the underlying fat cells become more apparent. Even sunscreens with a high protection factor are not very effective.
  7. Sexy – but risky!
Even if it looks smart – don’t cross your legs! The enormous pressure on these vessels is poison to a beautiful skin appearance. And even if high heels are the latest trend – they are impeding the blood circulation and the lymph flow.
